Learning Specialist

Laura Cronin

I have worked in the fields of therapy and education for the past 21 years. I began my career working with children and their parents completing assessments and treatments of speech-language disorders. As I expanded my reach in the community, I collaborated with schools to assist students with language delays, as well as learning differences. To improve my approach with students, I gained a second Master's degree in education and a Rank 1 as a literacy specialist. As a speech-language pathologist and literacy teacher, I have assisted students from the ages of 2-18 in areas of language, reading, writing, metacognition, and executive function. I have used a variety of learning tools to assist students to gain academic success including the Barton Reading System and Expanding Expression Tool. Currently, I work in a high school as the director of the Learning Differences Program where I help students gain skills and confidence in executive functioning, study habits, growth mindset, and self-advocacy.

About

Laura

What would you say to someone who is very anxious about learning difficulties in school?

Every student I have engaged with has a different approach to learning. The important part of self-discovery is finding the way that works best for you. There are a variety of approaches to learning and studying that you need to explore to find the best fit for you. There are also technology tools that can be utilized to help you learn new material, write a paper, or have material read to you. For learning to take place it is important to find the best learning style and arrange the learning environment accordingly.
