Growing Fast Without Losing Continuity: Madison County Expands Its Special Education Team

Madison County Schools begins a virtual special education partnership with Parallel this school year.

“As our district continues to grow, we remain committed to ensuring that every student receives the individualized support and services they need to succeed. Our partnership with Parallel is an opportunity to strengthen our special education services by bringing additional expertise and resources alongside our dedicated teachers and staff. We recognize how important consistency, relationships, and trust are to our students and families, and we look forward to working with Parallel’s educators as they become part of our school communities and help us continue meeting the needs of the students we serve.”

-Tausha Knight, Director of Special Education, Madison County School System

About the district

Madison County Schools serves 20,691 students across 30 schools in the communities surrounding Huntsville, in north Alabama. It is the largest district in this year's group of new Parallel partnerships. Enrollment and school count come from the NCES Common Core of Data, 2024-25.

What the partnership covers

As Madison County continues to grow, so does the demand on its special education team. The district needed more than additional teachers—it wanted experienced special educators who could provide case management, build strong relationships with families, and stay for the duration of the assignment. Parallel worked closely with district leadership to develop a model centered on continuity, giving Madison County additional capacity while helping maintain consistency for students, families, and school teams.

How Parallel works with districts

Parallel providers are state-licensed clinicians who work with students using our tele-therapy platform, Pathway. Sessions are scheduled around the school day and coordinated with the district's special education team.

Parallel is dedicated to helping schools meet the growing demands of special education. In an era shaped by rapid technological change, evolving expectations, and increasing caseloads, having the right partners in place is more important than ever. Parallel connects districts with highly qualified special education teachers, school psychologists, speech-language pathologists, and social workers.

Parallel is designed to help districts expand capacity, use resources strategically, and, most importantly, ensure that students are making real progress.

Parallel operates as a School Official under FERPA and is ISO 27001 certified.

Madison County Schools begins working with Parallel this year, bringing licensed virtual providers to students across north Alabama.
